First time at the dentist
Take your child to the dentist from a young age; starting from the eruption of the first tooth. Dental costs for children up to 18 years old are covered by the basic insurance.
Brushing teeth in children
Start brushing your child's teeth from the moment the first milk tooth erupts. Once a day, always before bedtime. Do not give anything to eat or drink afterwards. Water is allowed. From 2 years old, also brush in the morning.
The milk teeth
The first milk tooth usually erupts between 6 and 9 months. By the time a child is about 2.5 years old, the milk teeth count 20 teeth and molars. Cavities can also occur in milk teeth. That's why brushing from the eruption of the first tooth is important.
Fluoride
Fluoride is a safe and effective way to prevent cavities. Fluoride makes the enamel of teeth harder and helps to provide protection against, for example, acids. In addition, early cavities can be repaired by brushing with fluoride toothpaste and using fluoride (applied by the dentist).
On the website allesoverhetgebit.nl you can find more information about your child's teeth.
From the moment the first teeth break through, you can start brushing the teeth with a fluoride toothpaste. Until the age of two, brushing once a day is sufficient. From the age of two, the teeth should be brushed twice a day. For babies and children up to 5 years old, there is special toddler toothpaste. Follow the following guideline:
